Driving Directions to the MTTA Office and Backcountry

MTTA's office is located in Ashford, Washington.   Ashford is on Highway 706 about 6 miles west of Mount Rainier National Park. This is the entrance that leads to Longmire and Paradise.

As you come into Ashford from the west, our office is located behind the Fire Station, which is one of the first buildings on the left. Park in the Fire Station parking lot. This parking lot is a typical meeting place for MTTA events.

Our North backcountry road turn-off is located ~1 mile west of Ashford (~6 miles east of Elbe) on Hiway 706.  Look for signs to the 92 Road.

The South District access road was relocated in 2008, and the first turn off is now located ~2 miles east of Ashford on SR 706.   For detailed directions to our South District, please open and print our

Coming from Seattle:

  1. Take I-5 S toward SEA-TAC AIRPORT/ USE EXIT 154B. 15.14 miles
  2. Take the WA-516 exit- exit number 149- toward KENT/ DES MOINES. 0.21 miles
  3. Turn LEFT onto S KENT DES MOINES RD/ WA-516 E. 2.89 miles
  4. Merge onto WA-167 S toward AUBURN. 13.17 miles
  5. Merge onto WA-512 W/ WA-161 S toward PUYALLUP/ OLYMPIA. 3.48 miles
  6. Take the exit toward SOUTH HILL/ WA-161 S/ EATONVILLE. 0.39 miles
  7. Turn LEFT onto 104TH ST E/ WA-161. Continue to follow WA-161. 22.95 miles
  8. Turn LEFT onto MASHELL AVE S/ WA-161. Continue to follow WA-161. 2.87 miles
  9. Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto WA-7. 10.09 miles.   This takes you to Elbe.
  10. Stay straight to go onto WA-706/ WA-706 E. Continue to follow WA-706 E. 7.86 miles

Coming from Olympia:

  1. Take I-5 N toward SEATTLE.
  2. Merge onto WA-512 E via exit number 127 toward PUYALLUP/ MT. RAINIER.   2.22 miles
  3. Take the WA-7/ PACIFIC AVE. exit toward PARKLAND/ SPANAWAY.  0.32 miles
  4. Turn RIGHT onto PACIFIC AVE S/ WA-7 S. Continue to follow WA-7 S.  35.57 miles.   This takes you to Elbe.
  5. Stay straight to go onto WA-706/ WA-706 E. Continue to follow WA-706 E.   7.86 miles
